The incumbent of this position is responsible for serving as the primary source for technical assistance support, related to substance use prevention, for community coalitions to facilitate the development of community coalitions capable of making changes in substance use patterns in their community. The Prevention Specialist position offers a workplace culture cultivating employee wellbeing, valuing each individual's humanity, and actively promoting healthy, joyful workforce engagement. Key responsibilities include serving as the point of contact for community-based coalitions, providing information about substance use prevention programs and resources, offering technical assistance and training, assisting with community needs assessments, contributing to strategic work plan development and evaluation, participating in statewide prevention training, preparing and submitting various monthly reports, assisting with annual report development, participating in quality improvement and merchant education campaigns, attending conferences and in-services, and other duties as assigned. Knowledge required includes policies, procedures, and regulations of the program, ability to develop and evaluate services, and effective communication skills. Education qualifications range from a Master's Degree in related fields or a Bachelor's Degree with experience, or an Associate's Degree with more experience. Staff must obtain the Missouri Substance Abuse Prevention Associate credential and attend Substance Abuse Prevention Specialist Training within specified timeframes. Employment requirements include background checks, new hire orientation, training, valid driver's license, and insurance. Physical requirements are sedentary work with occasional lifting.
